Gympie radio station 4GY is celebrating a major milestone, marking 85 years on air and an extraordinary history of broadcasting to the local community.
Officially launched on November 3, 1941, 4GY first took to the airwaves from the Olympia Theatre on Mellor Street, with an opening-night presentation featuring local performers, a combined children's choir and the Gympie Mouth Organ Band.
In the latest published Gympie radio survey, Survey 1, 2022, 4GY recorded 4.1% in the People 10+, down 0.3 percentage points from its previous result of 4.4%.
The 2022 survey is the latest Gympie survey identified in the published results, so the figures should be viewed as historical rather than a reflection of the station's current audience.
4GY was acquired by Broadcast Operations in 2000, and today is part of the Super Radio Network, with Rick Hose presenting ‘4GY’s Big Breakfast’, Weekdays from 5-9AM.
